Schrader began racing in 1971 and quickly made a name for himself. He won the USAC Silver Crown Series Championship in 1982 and the USAC Sprint Car Championship in 1983. He debuted in the NASCAR Cup Series in 1984 and has four Cup Series victories and 23 pole positions. He also owns Federated Auto Parts Raceway in Pevely, Missouri, and co-owns Macon Speedway in Macon, Illinois, with Kenny Wallace, Tony Stewart, and Bob Sargent. Schrader is married to Ann, and they have two children, Dorothy and Sheldon. He remains active in racing and related ventures.
