Jackie Mason (born Yacov Moshe Maza; June 9, 1928 – July 24, 2021) was an American stand-up comedian, actor, and producer. He was known for his often controversial but always sharp and observational humor, drawing heavily on his Jewish heritage and upbringing. Before his comedy career, Mason was an ordained rabbi, adding a unique perspective to his comedic material. His career spanned decades, including successful one-man shows on Broadway, such as ‘The World According to Me!’, which won him a Special Tony Award. He also appeared in films like ‘The Jerk’ and ‘Caddyshack II,’ and provided the voice for Rabbi Hyman Krustofski on ‘The Simpsons,’ winning an Emmy for his performance. Mason’s comedy often pushed boundaries, tackling social and political issues with his signature wit and delivery.
