London Nicole Breed, born on August 11, 1974, is an American politician who served as the 45th Mayor of San Francisco from 2018 to 2025 [1, 3]. Raised in public housing in San Francisco’s Western Addition neighborhood by her grandmother, she overcame significant challenges early in life [1, 4]. Breed graduated with honors from Galileo High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science/Public Service from the University of California, Davis, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco [1, 4, 5]. Before becoming mayor, Breed served as the Executive Director of the African American Art & Culture Complex, and as a commissioner on both the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency and the San Francisco Fire Commission [5]. She was first elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 2012 and later became President of the Board in 2015 [1, 5]. As mayor, she focused on addressing critical issues such as homelessness, affordable housing, public safety, and improving public transportation [4]. London Breed is the first African-American woman to be elected mayor of San Francisco [2, 4, 6].
