Overview

Peter Hook, born Peter Woodhead on February 13, 1956, is an English musician renowned as the bassist and co-founder of the iconic post-punk band Joy Division and its successor, New Order. His distinctive bass playing style, characterized by melodic lines played high on the strings with a heavy chorus effect, set him apart. Hook’s musical journey began in the mid-1970s when he formed a band with Bernard Sumner, which would later become Joy Division. Following the tragic death of lead singer Ian Curtis in 1980, the band reformed as New Order, achieving considerable success throughout the 1980s and 1990s. Besides his work with Joy Division and New Order, Hook has also been involved in other musical projects such as Revenge and Monaco. He is also an author, having penned books about his experiences in Joy Division and New Order. In recent years, Hook has toured and performed the music of Joy Division and New Order with his band Peter Hook and The Light.
