He is best known as the founder and frontman of the band KC and the Sunshine Band, which rose to prominence in the 1970s, becoming synonymous with the disco era. Casey’s early musical influences stemmed from organ music he heard during church services. He formed KC and the Sunshine Band in 1973 with Richard Finch. Their music is a blend of funk, disco, and R&B, producing hits like “Get Down Tonight,” “That’s the Way (I Like It),” and “(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty”. The band dominated the music charts, earning multiple platinum records and Grammy Awards. In January 1982, Casey was involved in a car accident that left him partially paralyzed for six months; but he eventually relearned how to walk, dance, and play the piano. In the mid-1990s, Casey reunited KC and the Sunshine Band, and they have been touring and performing worldwide ever since, keeping the legacy of their music alive.
