James Robert “Jim” Davis (born July 28, 1945) is an American cartoonist, screenwriter, and producer, best known as the creator of the comic strips Garfield and U.S. Acres. Garfield, published since 1978, chronicles the life of a sardonic, lazy, lasagna-loving cat. It has become one of the world’s most widely syndicated comic strips, spawning merchandise, television shows, and movies. Davis’s other comics work includes Tumbleweeds, Gnorm Gnat, and Mr. Potato Head. He also wrote or co-wrote all of the Garfield TV specials for CBS and produced Garfield and Friends, a series that also aired on CBS.
