Claude Russell Bridges (April 2, 1942 – November 13, 2016), most famously known as Leon Russell, was an American musician and songwriter with a career that spanned multiple genres, including rock and roll, country, gospel, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, southern rock, blues rock, folk, surf and the Tulsa sound. He was involved with numerous best-selling records during his 60-year career. Russell began his musical journey at age 14, playing in Tulsa nightclubs. He later settled in Los Angeles and became a session musician, playing on tracks for various artists. By 1970, he had transitioned to a solo recording artist, and in 1973, Billboard named him the ‘Top Concert Attraction in the World’. Russell’s notable works include writing ‘Delta Lady’, and his song ‘A Song for You’ has been recorded by over 200 artists. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.
