Dave Gahan, born David Callcott on May 9, 1962, in Epping, Essex, is an English singer-songwriter, best known as the frontman of the electronic band Depeche Mode since their formation in 1980. With his commanding stage presence and baritone voice, Gahan has led Depeche Mode to become one of the most influential and commercially successful bands in electronic music history, selling over 100 million records worldwide. Growing up in Basildon, Essex, Gahan’s early life was marked by delinquency, but he found his passion in music. He joined Composition of Sound in 1980, later renamed Depeche Mode. While Martin Gore is the primary songwriter, Gahan has contributed significantly to the band’s later albums.
