Michael Corbett Shannon, born on August 7, 1974, is an American actor, producer, and musician. He was born in Lexington, Kentucky. Shannon began his professional stage career in Chicago. He is known for his intense performances and versatility across stage and screen. He received Academy Award nominations for his roles in “Revolutionary Road” (2008) and “Nocturnal Animals” (2016). He gained widespread recognition for his role as Nelson Van Alden in the HBO series “Boardwalk Empire” (2010–2014), for which he won two Screen Actors Guild Awards. His film debut was in Groundhog Day (1993). He has appeared in numerous films, including “Pearl Harbor,” “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead,” “Take Shelter,” “Man of Steel” as General Zod, “Knives Out,” and “Bullet Train.” Shannon is also a stage actor, having appeared in Broadway productions such as “Grace” and “Long Day’s Journey into Night,” earning a Tony Award nomination.
